Emma is a graduate of UNE with a degree in animal behavior. Emma’s main focus at the academy has been our Independent Study program, evaluating new clients, and expanding our training offerings. Emma’s mindset of dog training is keeping it fun for the dog and their owner while always using positive science-based methods. She has experience training shelter dogs in Illinois and regularly volunteers with local rescues here in Maine. Outside of MPA you can find her training her long term foster Rory or playing with her rescue dog Bam.
We believe dogs can overcome a long list of challenging behavioral issues and we can help you see the potential your dog has. We provide dog behavior modification programs for owners struggling with their dog’s behavior here in Scarborough and surrounding cities. This program is designed to replace your dog’s unwanted behavior with the desired behavior. Dog behavior modification includes troubleshooting dog behavior problems such as:
Manners 1 Training Class – Bring your dog in and work with our trainer on learning cues like: Sit, Down, Stay, Leave it, Place, and loose leash walking. Class sizes are small with normally 6 dogs or less to participate in this class allowing for individualized attention.
Manners 2 Training Class – Bring your dog in and work with our trainer on learning advanced cues like: Heel, Side, Finish, automatic Leave it, and fun tricks! Class sizes are small with normally 4 dogs to participate in this class allowing for individualized attention.
Canine Good Citizen – your dog will prepare for this amazing AKC test! You'll practice skills required for the test and on the last week of class test for the CGC.
Tutoring – Our tutoring program consists of at least one parent and the dog in a one-on-one 45-minute session. In addition to addressing specific behaviors, we will share with you tips and tricks on the basics of training and provide you with documentation on how to continue working these behaviors at home.
Daycare and Train – This program is for when your dog is at the facility for daycare or boarding. Your dog will get a 30-minute customized training session to work on whatever you are struggling with. You'll get homework so that you can reinforce what your pup learned at home.

Basic commands such as sit, down, stay, eye contact, off, and come are included in the Mutty Paws Academy puppy classes. Our staff teaches the right way to socialize your puppy with people, other dogs, and animals. We guide and assist them with potty training and let you know when they need to go. Would you rather put them on a potty schedule? We can also accommodate them too.
We are always sure to walk your puppy on a loose leash to prepare them for when you’re ready to leash them regularly for walks. We assist with controlled chewing and what objects the dog is allowed to play with. Training your dog at an early age gives them a better chance to become well-behaved when they reach maturity.
We believe that dog aggression towards people or other dogs is very fixable. Obedience on or off leash is easy to learn in a few sessions. It’s never too late to put a stop to aggression, no matter what breed or how old your dog is, there is always hope to change the way your dog reacts to certain situations. We specialize in aggression rehabilitation and will evaluate your dog and find the roots to your dog’s aggression.
By training your dog, you challenge them to think smarter, be safer and have more fun to be around. Trained dogs have more freedom to play and run around because training them makes them reliable.
